Learn Something Everyday

Is the Internet making us stupid? According to Nicholas Carr at The Atlantic, it is. His article discussing the topic delves into the effect the Internet has had on people’s attention spans. As we are now so used to reading and surfing online we expect interactivity and speed when gathering information. So when we switch back to the good old book or paper and pen where does our attention go? Right out the window.

But as all of you will know, the Internet is an incredible thing – an immense database of information easily accessible at our fingertips. So while it may be affecting the length of our attention spans, it’s a resource for all kinds of profound and in-depth information.

But instead of showing you that, here’s some examples of the countless useless facts the Internet can also show you from Learn Something Every Day.

Have a great Friday everyone.

Post-Osama Laughs

In the wake of Osama Bin Laden’s death, there has been a wave of Osama jokes, parodies and videos. Here are a few that gave me a bit of a giggle:

1. David Letterman’s Ten Last Words of Osama Bin Laden

Wacky Wills and Kate Wedding Memorabilia

With the whole world captivated by the romance, the magic and the fairytale of Wills and Kate, it’s no wonder that a bevy of merchandise has sprung up all over the shop (no pun intended).

While being here in London I’ve come across some crackers that are just so bizarre, yet the people can’t get enough of it.

Here’s some of my favourite wacky Wills and Kate memorabilia:

Best Easter Apps

Easter means something different for everyone. Whether it’s the religious aspect, family together-ness, or it being the only time of year it’s acceptable to eat your body weight in chocolate, it’s always a holiday to look forward to.

And don’t forget the Royal Easter Show! Rides, showbags, wood chopping and Pluto pups, what more could you ask for? My kids still talk about their fondest memories of The Show as kids, and even now dive for the showbag catalogue when it comes out each year.

But for some parents Easter can mean kids on sugar-highs, stomache-aches from excessive chocolate consumption, and empty wallets (especially when Easter coincides with school holidays and involves a lot more activities).

ANZAC Day Tribute

One of the many things I love about being an Aussie, is the deep national pride we have for our country. And this is never as strong as on ANZAC day. On no other day will regular people voluntarily rise in the darkness to sit out in the cold and watch the sunrise to the sound of a bugle playing. But that haunting sound, and the spine shivers it brings is a feeling like nothing else.

It’s a day we can all come together, regardless of differences, and honour those who came before us who defended our country, and those still doing that job today.
