Like every other marriage we’ve certainly had more than our fair share of rough patches. We often joke that a big incentive of staying together is that we couldn’t afford to divorce if we had to split the mortgage.

More than ever, it is vital to keep your relationship on track keeping each other informed of your family money situation, good or bad.
Don’t bottle it up because no-one likes surprises. It is way better to share challenges and work through them together.
Set some ground rules for individual spending, saving and household financial management.
We talk a lot about our finances but then one of us has primary responsibility for running the household finances and the other looking after superannuation and savings.
