For Richer or Poorer

Like every other marriage we’ve certainly had more than our fair share of rough patches. We often joke that a big incentive of staying together is that we couldn’t afford to divorce if we had to split the mortgage.

Jokes aside though, the financial stress which many couples are under can have a devastating impact on their relationship.

More than ever, it is vital to keep your relationship on track keeping each other informed of your  family money situation, good or bad.

Don’t bottle it up because no-one likes surprises. It is way better to share challenges and work through them together.

Set some ground rules for individual spending, saving and household financial management.

We talk a lot about our finances but then one of us has primary responsibility for running the household finances and the other looking after superannuation and savings.
